BPI

In class today we looked at audience profiling and how class/age etc may affect what genre of music people may listen to.

We also visited the website of the 'British Phonographic Industry" and looked at the facts and figures page. This revealed which genres of music were most popular dating from 2009-2013 showing that the highest number of album sales over 4 years was Rock. This came as a surprise to me as I thought it would be pop considering that is what the charts is built up of.

This chart was most relevant to us considering we are creating an album campaign not a single. Also rock is a bigger genre then pop so may have a wider audience. Eg. indie rock, hard rock, rock n roll. etc
Although, on the other hand the highest number of singles sold were in the category of pop. This makes sense as listeners of pop are generally a lot younger then rock listeners and so therefore may have less money to spend on music.
