Camera lesson 2 (sequences)

OUR SECOND CAMERA LESSON WAS BASED ON SHORT SEQUENCES.

Filming short sequences:

Using different heights of the tripod or of the camera in general, is very important. For example when filming someone walking you must place the camera low down so the shoes are at the screen level. People also overcomplicate shots by moving the camera so we focused on still shots which are vital when filming a sequence in order for it to run smoothly.

When filming a scene you should record numerous repeats so that you are guaranteed to get the right shot. Also, you shouldn't watch the clips back as it will just slow down the process.

In short sequences it is good to create interesting angles so that it isn't bland or boring. Using zoom, is essential.

In this lesson we also covered a vital factor of filming in general, the 180 rule. This rule involves imagining there is a line across the two actors and insuring that you film with each characters on their original sides. Without including the 180 rule it would appear that the characters are talking to themselves, or for example, a car is driving into itself.
